24.11.2008 New Legislation on Mercury Storage On 4 December 2008, EU Regulation 1102/2008/EC comes into force. From 15 March 2011, the Regulation will ban the export of mercury from the EU and require safe storage as waste of surplus mercury from certain industrial processes, including the chlor-alkali manufacturing industry. The Regulation implements two of 20 measures under the EU Mercury Strategy to reduce the global exposure of humans and the environment to mercury. |
